Team Mopar® driver Jerry Coons Jr. was the event winner and also a player in a top-four Mopar sweep of qualifying when the United States Auto Club (USAC) National sprint car Series visited the ultra-fast Richmond (Va.) International Raceway on Friday night. Further putting the Mopar stamp on things, every one of the 60 feature laps was led by a Sprint Car with Mopar horsepower thumping beneath its hood. Coons, driving the Hoffman Auto Racing No. 69 Sprinter, was joined by Mopar man and third-place finisher Damion Gardner on the podium. “I’m very excited to get my first USAC Sprint Car series win on pavement and also the Hoffman team’s 70th win,” Coons, who is also the two-time and defending USAC Mopar Midget National champion, said. “Our Gaerte Mopar was flawless. We didn’t change a thing on the car all day. The team gave me a perfect car, right out of the trailer.”
