Jeep® J8 production begins
The first 17 Jeep® J8 vehicles left Arab American Vehicles Company (AAV) yesterday for Egypt to be shipped to 14 different countries in Europe and the Middle East. The Jeep J8 is a new vehicle being built in two- and four-door versions, based on the long-wheelbase Jeep Wrangler Unlimited chassis. The Jeep J8 has enhanced capability and higher payload than consumer versions of the Wrangler. With a more competitive price than the American General Hummer, the Jeep J8 is ideally suited to nonmilitary commercial roles, as well, ranging from relief organizations to oil and gas exploration companies. An official lauch celebration is scheduled for early October. AAV is a joint venture between Chrysler and the Egyptian government (the Arab Organization for Industrialization), which assembles the Jeep Cherokee (Liberty in the United States) and now the J8 for the Egyptian army from imported kits.
