Two from Chrysler on list of top black business leaders
Savoy Professional magazine named Monica Emerson, Executive Director –- Global Diversity Office, and Frank Fountain, Senior Vice President –- External Affairs and Public Policy, to its “Top 100 Blacks in Corporate America” for 2008. Both are featured in the July/August issue of the magazine.
The magazine cited the dedication to her career and community activities as criteria that qualified Emerson for the list, while Fountain was selected for his leadership qualities and being a role model that future business leaders can emulate.
“Being named to the Savoy Professional ‘Top 100’ list, amplifies the values of diversity and inclusion practiced at Chrysler,” said Emerson. “During my 33-year career with the company I’ve had many opportunities to grow and develop professionally. Those assignments prepared me to successfully lead our Global Diversity Office, promoting diversity throughout the organization worldwide.”
Emerson is responsible for the overall design, development and deployment of Chrysler’s corporate diversity strategies, including short and long-term strategies for implementing cultural changes in how the company leverages diversity to achieve a competitive advantage.
Emerson is a respected strategist on diversity and inclusion in the workplace and frequently speaks on the topic of diversity to many different organizations nationally and globally. She is an active community leader who participates on the boards of several organizations. Emerson was also appointed by Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm to serve on the Board of Trustees for Oakland University in 2007.
Fountain is responsible for maintaining and coordinating Chrysler’s interface with state and local governments across the United States through a staff of government affairs specialists who analyze issues that are important to the company and the auto industry and present those concerns to all levels of government.
“This recognition by Savoy Professional magazine validates the possibilities at Chrysler,” said Fountain. “My career at Chrysler is just one example of the many opportunities that exist and are achievable for everyone with dedication, persistence and performance.”
Fountain is also responsible for Community Relations, National Education Programs and is President of The Chrysler Foundation, the company’s philanthropic organization.
Fountain is a member of many business and professional organizations and serves on numerous Boards of Directors, including Africare, Hampton University Board of Trustees and Focus Hope Detroit.
