Elliott Sadler posts top-10 finish in Dodge Charger
Elliott Sadler claimed his seventh top-10 finish of the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season Sunday, finishing 10th in the Camping World RV 400 at Kansas Speedway. It was his third top 10 at the 1.5-mile oval in eight starts. The event also marked the debut of the new Dodge R6P8 engine in the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger driven by Kurt Busch. While the new engine went the distance, the No. 2 Dodge team didn’t have the opportunity to focus on performance aspects of the engine. “It was just a tough day all around – loose, tight, loose, tight,” said Busch. “We were so loose there with 30 (laps) to go that I slapped the wall twice in three laps. Our handling issue didn’t give us a chance to evaluate the performance of the new engine. We will get a better opportunity at tracks like Phoenix and Martinsville.” Sadler started fourth in the No. 19 GARMIN Dodge Charger and ran more than half the race in the top 10 including 130 of the first 138 laps of the 267-lap event. “That’s a great day for us,” said Sadler. “We’ve been struggling the last month. We did a lot of work at the Charlotte test and found out a lot of things that this car liked. Juan Pablo Montoya posted the fastest time in the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge Charger during Friday’s qualifying session, but a post-qualifying inspection revealed the rear end of the car was too not within NASCAR specs. The maximum pressure allowed in the car’s rear shocks was exceeded. The qualifying time was disallowed and Montoya started 42nd. He finished 20th. Ryan Newman finished 16th in the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger.
