Dealership employees help build playground in Utah

Posted on Thursday, October 9th, 2008 at 3:21 PM EDT.

More than 250 volunteers from Ken Garff West Valley Chrysler Jeep® Dodge, The Chrysler Foundation, Chrysler Financial, organizers from KaBoom and residents of the local community joined forces today to build a new playground at the Kearns National Pony League baseball field.

Dealership employees led the volunteer effort to add a state-of-the-art playground at the field site to provide families of the surrounding community and the children who frequent the baseball field, with a safe and enjoyable place to play.

“Ken Garff founded his business more than 75 years ago upon the principles of honesty and integrity, personalized customer service and being a good corporate citizen,” Chad Rigby, General Manager, Ken Garff West Valley Chrysler Jeep Dodge, said. “Our dealership is working to uphold these personal values today, and we are thrilled to provide a special space to celebrate play and friendship for children in our area.”

Planning for the playground began at a Design Day held in August when local children and community leaders met with organizers from KaBoom and Chrysler to develop their “dream” playground. The children’s drawings were used to create the final playground design.

“The Kearns National Pony League provides structure for many children and we even have players return to our field to be coaches and board members because this field has left a lasting impression on them,” Les DeJong, President, Kearns National Pony League, said. “Adding the playground will make those memories that much stronger and also will bring in more children from the local community to join in the experience.”

The playspace will be the 12th of 25 scheduled to be built this year by KaBoom, The Chrysler Foundation and Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge dealerships across the country to provide more than 70,000 children with a great place to play. The playspace is also one of more than 220 builds KaBoom will lead across the country in 2008, in an effort to provide an enjoyable place within walking distance of every child in America.

“KaBoom is committed to bringing play back to the neighborhood one playground at a time,” KaBoom CEO and Co-founder Darell Hammond said. “Every child deserves a place to run, jump, have fun and just be a kid. We are proud to work with Chrysler to give the children at the Kearns National Pony League baseball field a great place to play.”
