Review: 2009 Dodge Ram pays attention to details

More kudos for the 2009 Dodge Ram. Writing for USA Today, James Healey said “If you want the usefulness of a big pickup and don’t need bragging rights for the biggest payload and towing ratings, look hard at the redesigned ‘09 Dodge Ram.”

Healy was impressed with the Ram’s many marquee features, like “the high-power HEMI®, a clever, storage-rich cargo bed called RamBox™, and coil-spring rear suspension like on most cars.”

After hitting the highway in a pre-production, high-end Laramie crew-cab four-wheel-drive, and a production Big Horn crew cab 4X4, Healy praised the “smoother ride, better handling a crisper steering” the new Ram offers, calling the testers “the best people-toting, daily-driving big crew cabs ever.”

Inside the all-new Ram, Healy found the “seats, front and back, were supportive, agreeable,” with “extraordinary” rear legroom that “averts squish-induced kid squabbling.” And, he added, Ram is “still the rear-seat champ among big crew cabs.”

On the road, Healy noted the Ram was “not afraid of tight, quick corners, nor skittish on most bumps,” and offered “a good-humored grumble from the dual pipes.”

Overall, Healy called the 2009 Ram immensely appealing—so innovative, smooth, bold-looking and inviting because of the HEMI—that it’ll create its own market.”
