chicagofooddriveApproximately 20,000 pounds of canned food were packed into four 2009 Dodge Ram pickup trucks in the McCormick Center atrium this weekend and delivered to a Chicago-area food pantry.

The food drive was sponsored by Chrysler LLC to benefit the Chicago Christian Industrial League (CCIL), a nonprofit agency dedicated to empowering homeless families and individuals. For three days—Feb. 18, 19 and 20—auto show goers received half price admission by donating three cans of food to the 2009 Chicago Auto Show Food Drive.

“Every year at the Chicago Auto Show, we try to showcase the character of Chrysler and not just the great cars and trucks we build,” Lewis Scott, Director—Midwest Business Center, said. “Chrysler is an American company that is dedicated to providing good American jobs and serving the communities in which we live and work. We are so proud to continue our partnership with the Christian Industrial League and the great work they do everyday to feed the people of Chicago.”

The league is a century-old organization that restores families and individuals affected by poverty and homelessness by providing comprehensive programs and services empowering people to transform their lives and strengthen the community.

“During these tough economic times, we’re so thankful for Chrysler’s generous sponsorship at the Chicago Auto Show,” Mary Shaver, the Chicago Christian Industrial League’s interim executive director, said. “Every week CCIL’s Community Food Pantry serves more than 250 disadvantaged families. This wouldn’t be possible without the kindhearted charitable contributions from our loyal supporters and community partnerships.”
